How to Boost Curb Appeal This Season
With a new season comes new inspiration to make the type of changes to your home that will impress visitors (or potential buyers if you’re listing) before they even step through your front door. If first impressions are everything, and we think of your home’s curb appeal as its way of saying “hello, nice to meet you,” then ensuring it’s looking its best is an important part of a seasonal home makeover. Our friends at Builder have inspired us with their article, and we’re sharing the top 5 ways you can level up your home’s exterior this season.
1. Seasonal Accents
Let’s start with the most fun change you can make: adding seasonal décor. Now that we’re in fall, take advantage of the autumnal flowers with outdoor arrangements framing the front door, a warm-toned wreath, and a pumpkin or two. This will carry you through November and Thanksgiving, and then you can transition to winter holiday décor in December and the new year. Keeping up with seasonal décor shows that you’re conscious about your home’s design as you switch it out and maintain it as the year progresses.
2. New Coat, New Look
Is there anything more transformative than a fresh coat of paint? Painting the exterior of your home might seem like a major undertaking, but it truly can make a difference in refreshing your home’s entire look. Even repainting the front door or weathered shutters can go a long way if you’re not yet ready to do the whole exterior.
3. Don’t Ignore the Garage
It’s easy to dismiss your garage door(s) as purely functional, but it can be an excellent opportunity to add some accents like stylish hardware or even coach lighting to create a welcoming ambiance and add details to a space that otherwise can be a largely unimaginative part of your home design.
4. Statement Lighting
In keeping with the principle that lighting can make a world of difference, install new lighting around your front yard, throughout the landscaping, along pathways that lead to the front door or around the exterior, under the windows, and on your porch or entryway. Not only does this encase your home in a warm, inviting glow in the evenings—which is particularly important as we transition into shorter days and longer nights—but it also doubles as an extra safety feature.
5. Pull Up a Chair
Whether you have a sprawling, wraparound porch, a front lawn with a garden view, or simply a front stoop that could use a seat or two, putting outdoor furniture in the front of your house creates an image of a home that invites guests to relax and kick up their feet. Taking advantage of covered spaces will help keep the furniture in good condition even during the rainy season, and if you don’t have a covered area in the front of your home, explore weather-resistant materials for maximum durability.
